To discuss poll plans,Maya calls coordinators to Delhi

Mayawati has called a meeting of all her party’s coordinators, including those placed in different states,in New Delhi on October 15 to discuss strategies for the coming Assembly elections in UP,Uttarakhand,Punjab and Gujarat.

BSP national president and Chief Minister Mayawati has called a meeting of all her party’s coordinators, including those placed in different states,in New Delhi on October 15 to discuss strategies for the coming Assembly elections in UP,Uttarakhand,Punjab and Gujarat.

The BSP had contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections in all these states.

Insiders in the BSP said the Chief Minister plans to shift most of her coordinators, who are working in other states,to UP in view of the 2012 Assembly elections.

The party has already posted at least four coordinators in each of its 18 zones in Uttar Pradesh.

“The meeting is important in view of the CM’s plan to shift her other states’ coordinators to UP. Since Assembly elections in UP,Uttarakhand and Punjab are likely to be held at the same time,it will not be an easy task for her to manage party affairs alone. So,she will assign specific tasks to her such coordinators who would work in Uttarakhand and Punjab during the UP Assembly elections,” a source in the BSP said.

According to the source,Assembly elections are also due in Gujarat in December 2012. “The BSP wants to start its preparation for the Gujarat Assembly polls at an early stage. So,the Gujarat elections would be an important agenda for the proposed October 15 meeting,” the source further said.

The sources said Mayawati’s top priority is to keep her Dalit vote bank intact before the 2012 Assembly elections in view of her on-going move to change her party candidates in a large number of constituencies.

“Following delimitation, there have been significant demographic changes in most of the Assembly constituencies. The party has denied tickets to its sitting MLAs,including those who represent reserved constituencies. In such a situation, denial of party tickets to sitting MLAs might backfire,” a source said, explaining why Mayawati wants to shift the BSP’s coordinators from other states to UP at the earliest.

Sources added the CM has already shifted Rajya Sabha member Brij Lal Khabri from Andhra Pradesh to Bundelkhand region,Rajya Sabha member Veer Singh to Agra and Kanpur zones and MLA Ashok Siddarth to Allahabad and Mirzapur zones.

“Party coordinators Rajaram (Madhya Pradesh) Dharm Prakash Bharti (Gujarat),Raka Advocate (Gujarat),Gandhi Azad (Tamil Nadu) and Ram Kumar Kuril (Tamil Nadu) are likely to shifted to different zones of UP,” another source added.
