Give some funky new twists to denim this season
If you are bored of wearing the same old straight-fit pair of denims, theres good news for you. Designers and brands are working on a range of possibilities to glam up the boring wardrobe staple.
Indian weather.
Even though skinny jeans are here to stay, the jeggings are fast catching up on popularity. A creative mix of jeans and leggings, the jeggings can be teamed up with a long shirt or a loose pair of tees. For men, slouchy skinnies are popular now. It has taken off in a big way in the West. If lots of celebrities wear a trend then its pretty much guaranteed it will take off, says Lorna Burford, editor of the popular denimblog.
If you think that you have left ripped jeans back in the angsty days of your teenage, you are quite obviously committing a fashion faux paus. With actor Drew Barrymore and musician Rihanna advocating it,the popular ripped and torn jeans of the early nineties, then a symbol of rebellion,is now on a comeback mode, albeit in a sexier avatar. Vertical rip-offs,approximately 6-7 inches long, look fabulous. You can also give your old pair a fresh look by putting embroidered patches. The more you experiment, the trendier you look, says Delhi designer Nitin Bal Chauhan, who has worked out the look in his collection recently.
But is denim limited only to jeans and shorts? Designer Atsu Sekhose thinks not. Denim dresses, shirts and jumpsuits are the new trendsetters. With stores like Zara here, take a pick of their oversized denim jackets for an edgier look to your outfit, he says. Sekhose also advices fashionistas to break the monotony and experiment with coloured denims. Red,yellow and purple denims go perfectly well with the Indian skin tone. Of course its more suited for a younger age group because you need a certain kind of attitude for it. You can also tone it down by wearing the right kind of shirts and scarves, he adds.
Accessorising your denims the right way can also enhance the look. We are experimenting with heavy metallic studding on jeans, besides adding crystals to the pockets, says Priyanktha Iyengar, womens design head (India),Levis. If you dont like loud embellishments you can opt for long pockets and back yolk pockets. Button flys are also back in fashion, says Chauhan, whose spring-summer 2010 collection for men featured these attributes.
