Sachan death Handwriting doesnt match,CBI now probing conspiracy angle
Experts have raised doubts over the authenticity of a suicide note recovered after the mysterious death of Deputy CMO Dr Y S Sachan at the Lucknow district jail. The CBI had sent the photocopy of the note the original suicide note had gone missing to experts to verify if it matched with Dr Sachans handwriting. The findings did not confirm the same.
The CBI is now probing into the conspiracy behind the missing original suicide note and is also collecting evidence to corroborate the involvement of some senior government officials who allegedly got the note destroyed.
Sources said the suicide note was planted to eliminate the doubts of a conspiracy behind Dr Sachans death. Sachan was found dead in an unused toilet of the jail hospital building on June 22 with eight wounds on his body inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon and a postmortem ligature mark around his neck caused by hanging.
The jail staff then had claimed that the suicide note was found in a bag on Sachans bed soon after the body was recovered.
During interrogation and while undergoing polygraph test, the jail officials had told the CBI that the original note was handed over to then Inspector General (IG) of UP Prisons Administration & Reform Department Additional Director General (ADG) V K Gupta soon after Sachans body was recovered.
The CBI had interrogated Gupta regarding the note and had also searched his office at the Prisons Headquarters. But he did not give any convincing reply about the note.
The sources also said that the investigation so far has found that Gupta might have handed over the note to the then top officials who got it destroyed.
Gupta will be facing legal action if he does not give information about the source who was handed over the original note. The CBI so far has examined over 150 witnesses and has collected over 120 documents related to the case.
The High Court had ordered a CBI probe in Sachan murder case on July 14 last year and gave three months to the agency to submit the findings. The agency was later given two months on November 8 to conclude the investigation.
The CBI,on May 31,has filed an application before the court seeking two months time for completing the investigation.
