When it comes to story of a television serial changing track, actor Sudhir Dalve surrenders. “I don’t question producers why the serial they began with the promise of highlighting a particular virtue or addressing a specific issue has digressed towards a storyline that is way off the mark. I simply deliver the lines I am given to speak or enact the part written for me,” said the actor, who got famous as Shirdi Sai Baba for the eponymous part he played in the serial a few years ago.
He was in the city to promote Shraddha, the serial that goes on air from next week on Star Plus. It’s about a girl who stands up in support of her parents when their sons desert them.
“I’ve always been an atheist, but playing Sai Baba showed me the power of faith,” said Dalve, who has acted in a number of regional films, besides doing a small part in Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi.
“I’ve been to Lucknow a couple of times before when Sai devotees held functions and invited me as the guest of honour. It’s hard to get out of an image once you have played the part of a figure so high and mighty,” he said.
He said he was complacent, doing one project at a time and working at a pace that suits him.
