As the BJP swept the local body polls in Uttar Pradesh, the ruling Samajwadi Party on Sunday said that had it entered the polls fray, results would have been different.
Had the SP entered the polls fray, the scene would have been different. We have not contested the local body polls and set the ground free for opposition parties. Whenever we contest the polls, results would be in favour of the SP, said senior party leader and Cabinet Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav in Lucknow.
The BJP has won 10 of the 12 mayoral posts in Nagar Nigams in the state.
In the past, whenever Samajwadi Party contested the polls it tasted victory,Yadav said, adding,in the 2014 polls it would be proved when BJP candidates would forfeit their deposits.
Verdict reflects peoples mood against UPA: BJP
Meanwhile in Delhi,a confident BJP trained its guns on Congress party which failed to win a single mayoral seat in the state. People of UP has given a clear verdict against the policies of Congress and its allies in the local body elections. They are fed up with the corruption, lawlessness and price rise, BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters here.
The Congress,SP and BSP have been wiped out in the elections and BJP has won maximum seats in the civic elections, he said.
Taking a dig at the Congress,Naqvi said: The party could not even win any seat in Amethi and Rae Bareli. This is a clear indication…Congress lost all the three seats they had won earlier.
People have reposed faith in BJP as seen in the poll results which shows that the party has almost swept the local body elections in the state,he said.
The party had won the civic elections in Delhi earlier. It had also won the local elections in Maharashtra and now with the win in UP it has been proved that people have reposed their faith in BJP.
Congratulating voters and party workers for the victory,Naqvi said: There is a possibility of mid-term elections and if it happens then the BJP will lead from the front to form the next government at the Centre, he said.
