Seven months after he was appointed BJP UP state unit president, Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary on Saturday announced his team of state office bearers. In the 45-member team, Singh has retained 32 leaders — almost 71 per cent – from the outgoing one, which was constituted by his predecessor Swatantra Dev Singh. Chaudhary has brought in nine new faces and promoted four functionaries to higher positions in the team.

The state team includes 18 vice-presidents, seven general secretaries and 16 secretaries along with one treasurer, one co-treasurer, one party headquarters in-charge and one in-charge of the party’s cells and departments. “Technically, there are only five new faces in the state team. Remaining others have been either promoted from the previous state team and the regional units and district units,” said a party functionary.

Among the 18 vice-presidents in the new team, 13 were in the same position as the previous one. New vice-presidents include Manvendra Singh, who was so far Kanpur region president of the party; Dharmendra Singh, who was the Gorakhpur region president; and Mohit Beniwal, who was the western UP regional unit president.

Devesh Kumar and Triyambak Tripathi who were secretaries in the previous team have been promoted to vice-presidents post.

Sanjay Rai and Subhash Yaduvansh, who were secretaries in the previous team, have been promoted to general secretary post.

Ram Pratap Singh from Agra is the new face among the general secretaries.
The other four were in the same posts in the previous team.

Among the 16 secretaries, only four are new and they include former minister from Amethi– Suresh Pasi, youth wing leader Abhijat Mishra, Basant Tyagi and Shivbhushan Singh.

Significantly, the party has also changed presidents of all six regional units – Kanpur-Bundelkhand, Kashi, Gorakhpur, Awadh, Braj and Paschim (west UP).

Among all these office bearers, maximum 14 are from west UP and 11 are from east UP. Among the districts, the highest number of functionaries are from Lucknow (6), followed by Kanpur (5). There are three each from Agra and Varanasi districts.

“The previous team had worked well in the 2022 Assembly elections in which the party once again retained the power in the state. The party leadership was of the view that there should not be any major changes in the state team. Largely, replacements have been made to fill the posts of those office bearers who had become ministers in the state Cabinet. One position of vice-president had fallen vacant after Lakshman Acharya become Governor of Sikkim last month,” said a BJP functionary, adding the party has made the changes following the policy of “one man, one post”.
The new state team will now prepare the party for the upcoming urban local body elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
