Kheri Chief Medical Officer Dr J P Bhargava said Mahendra Sharma, the clerk at the community health centre in Pasgawan who was found dead last evening, had gone missing since February 7,a day after he was supposed to hand over some missing records.
According to the CMO,Sharma was transferred to another health centre at Bijua in Palia area on October 24 last year after he allegedly misbehaved with some staff. However,Sharma reportedly did not join his new place of posting, nor did he hand over charge at the Pasgawan health centre. Instead,he remained absent despite several reminders, said Bhargava.
On December 3,another person was posted to the Bijua health centre, and Sharma was transferred to a health centre in Patrasi area of the district. But he reportedly did not report for duty again.
Bhargava said the superintendent at the Pasgawan health centre later broke the locks of the almirahs under Sharmas charge to take possession of some important records. But many important ledgers and files were reportedly missing. Sharma was issued letters to hand over the records, but he did not respond, claimed the CMO.
On February 2,Sharma reportedly visited the superintendent and assured that he would hand over charge, and the records,on February 6. He went missing the next day, said Bhargava.
Meanwhile, family members today blamed health department officials for the death. Sharmas wife Mithilesh alleged that Bhargava and officials of the health centre were responsible for the death.
Sharmas son,Tushar, said he went to meet Bhargava yesterday to inquire about his father. He said Bhargava told him that Sharma had returned and was at his flat at the health centre premises in Pasgawan area.
According to Tushar, when he reached the flat,he found the front door bolted from inside and the back door locked from outside. He broke the window and entered the flat, where he found Sharma lying on the floor with injuries on his nose, shoulder, arms and head.
Bhargava admitted he had told Tushar that Sharma was at his flat. He said a health centre official had called him up and told him that Sharma had been seen in his house.
