The Allahabad High Court on Friday banned the use and sale of polythene in Vrindavan area of Mathura district. The ban will come in effect from October 1. The court passed the order while hearing a PIL seeking directions to the local administration for banning polythene,besides taking other measures to prevent pollutants from flowing into river Yamuna. It has fixed October 11 as the next date of hearing.
Passing the order,a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Amitava Lala and Justice PKS Baghel,also directed constitution of a task force that would look into the measures required to prevent pollutants from entering Yamuna.
Shambhu Chopra,counsel for petitioners Brij Lifeline Welfare,an NGO,said: The court has also directed that the task force submit its report by the next hearing.
Besides,the court has also said that the Senior Superintendent of Police (Mathura) would be held responsible if the implementation of the ban is not followed. Chopra added that the court itself had ordered making the SSP (Mathura) a party to the PIL,which was filed on Wednesday. The court wanted the police to ensure that the ban was implemented, he said.
Amar Singh case: HC reserves order on ED plea
ALLAHABAD:A special three-judge bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday reserved its order on an application filed the by Enforcement Directorate seeking modification of the courts order passed earlier in connection with a case against former SP leader Amar Singh,accusing him of money laundering and other charges. The final order will be passed on October 12.
The ED had filed an application before the HC seeking direction to the Economic Offences Wing of UP to investigate the offences registered under various sections of the IPC,while it will probe charges of money laundering under Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The court will pass a final order on October 12, said N I Jafri,counsel for Shiv Kant Tripathi,the petitioner.
