Poll officials booked for misusing vehicle

An FIR against two sector magistrates was lodged on Saturday at the Jiyanpur police station of Azamgarh for the misuse of jeeps provided to them for election duty.

An FIR against two sector magistrates was lodged on Saturday at the Jiyanpur police station of Azamgarh for the misuse of jeeps provided to them for election duty.

Jiyanpur SHO Ashok Saraswat said Krishna Kumar,the Assistant Prosecution Officer of Azamgarh,and Dr Mukund Lal,a medical officer posted with Atraulia Community Health Centre,were deputed as sector magistrates for the election in the district. They were provided two jeeps by the district administration.

Azamgarh ADM (Finance & Revenue) Raj Kishun spotted the jeeps,with sector magistrate written on wind-screens,ferrying passengers at Jiyanpur Township at 12.40 pm on Friday. The driver told Raj Kishun that the officials were at their homes.

The case was registered against the duo under Section 134 (1) of Representation of People Act and Section 188 (disobedience to an order issued by public servant) of IPC.

In a related incident,another case was registered against Dr Javed,Ulema Council candidate from Azamgargh Lok Sabha seat,for giving provocative speech and holding an illegal gathering.

The FIR was lodged at the Meh Nagar police station on Friday.

A police officer said Dr Javed and other members of the council organised a meeting at Bishaan area without seeking permission from the administration. The case was registered under Section 125 of the Representation of People Act and Section 188 of IPC.
