Vishal SrivastavA LARGE number of students Friday protested in Lucknow alleging paper leaks in the police constable recruitment examination that was held statewide on February 17 and 18. The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment & Promotion Board organised the examination.
The protest was initiated by a group of students and coaching centre owners who tutored candidates for the exam.
Later in the day, the protesters said they were called to the office of Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment & Promotion Board.
“A delegation of protesters visited the board’s office, met with senior officials and presented evidence of the paper leak, also outlining our demands,” said Manoj Kumar Kannojia, who runs a coaching centre in Prayagraj.
Earlier, the board had formed an internal committee to verify claims made on social media about a paper leak after the examination was completed. The committee was also tasked with assessing improvements required for future recruitments. A senior officer stated that they had requested individuals who claimed the question paper was leaked to provide evidence.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Friday slammed the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the recruitment examination paper leak incidents and demanded a CBI inquiry into them and strict action against the culprits. Referring to the police recruitment exam, she said more than 50 lakh youths filled up forms for the test and this was the biggest examination in the history of the state.
