Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency Varanasi, on Sunday said that the ongoing “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra” is a test for him as he would like to know from people if he has met the promises.
He said that as beneficiaries would be reached out through the yatra, he would like to know whether the desired results have been achieved.
Whether it has been done for the person for whom it was intended to, whether they had to give commission or not, and whether the work which was to be done, has happened or not, the PM added.
He said that while representatives and officials are participating in the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra across the country, it was his responsibility as the Member of Parliament from Varanasi to also participate in the same in his constituency.
Interacting with the beneficiaries of the government scheme, Modi referred to the famous “garibi hatao” slogan of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1970s and said: “Giving the slogan of ‘garibi hatao’ is one thing. But a poor now says that the day he got a gas cylinder stove in his house the difference between rich and poor diminished.”
“He says his confidence went up, when he started living in a pucca house, and his children could stand with their friends in schools and colleges… The children felt humble living in a jhopdi (thatched houses)… there was no confidence. But on getting pucca houses, their life is filled with self-confidence,” Modi said.
Comparing managing household finance with that of the country, the Prime Minister said: “Desh ke paas bhi paise hone chahiye… Desh ke paas paise honge to aaj 4 crore garibon ko ghar mil gaya (The country should also have money. When the country has money, then 4 crore poor got houses).”
He then said that for those who have not got it, there is “Modi’s guarantee” that the promises would be fulfilled.
