After several incidents of celebratory firings during victory processions of SP leaders and weddings,DGP AC Sharma has issued a circular to book gun licence holders involved in such incidents. The circular also said their licences will be cancelled within a month of the occurrence of such incidents.

The DGP has said that local police station officers will be accountable for such incidents taking place in their areas. The district police chiefs will ensure penal action against station officers in such cases. However, there are no directions about how the SOs will deter such incidents at private functions like marriage ceremonies and birthday parties.

The district police chiefs will have to provide information to the DGP office within a month.

The Circle Officers (COs) will be responsible for cancellation of the licences of arms used for firing. According to the DGP’s directions, the COs will have to get a report on an incident from the police station and submit it to the district magistrate office concerned through the SP office within three days.

The COs have been directed to personally pursue these cases to get the licences cancelled and the arms surrendered within a month from the date of incident.

Among the various incidents of celebratory firings reported from the state, the latest took place in Fatehpur when newly appointed SP district president Rameshwar Dayal visited his native place on Monday.

On March 6,a student was reportedly killed when supporters of SP leader fired gunshots at Bolaki ka Chauraha to celebrate victory in the elections.
