The Sonbhadra police claimed to have collected key information about hideouts of the wanted Naxal leader Munna Vishwakarma during the interrogation of two Naxals – Rakesh Mishra and Amarnath Kushwaha – who were arrested following a police encounter in the forests of Kon area yesterday. They were sent to jail today.
Sonbhadra SP Preetinder Singh said police teams are on the job of combing and surveillance to follow on the information provided by the two.
We are also seeking their remand for extensive interrogation to trace Munna Vishwakarma, who carries a reward of Rs 50,000. I have also sent a request to the state government through Mirzapur Range DIG for increasing the reward amount on him, Singh said.
A police officer engaged in the anti-Naxal operation said Mishra and Kushwaha have disclosed the exact locations in Kaimur forest and the adjoining hilly areas where Vishwakarma and his close aides could be hiding. The two are also said to have told the interrogators about the locations where Naxals store arms and ammunition. The two have also reportedly named a few locals who work for Vishwakarma.
The police have asked the newly appointed Special Police Officers (SPOs) to identify the suspects working for Naxal groups.
It was Mishra and Kushwaha who informed the police about the killing of wanted Naxal leader Ram Vriksha Kol,whose body was then recovered by the police yesterday.
Kol was reportedly shot dead by Vishwakarma following a dispute over sharing extortion money.
