Cops accused of custodial death of murder suspect,postmortem confirms death due to head injury
A case of murder was on Wednesday registered against five policemen,including a Station Officer (SO) and in-charge of the special operation group (SOG),for allegedly beating a murder suspect to death in custody at the Sakran police station of Sitapur district last night.
The postmortem examination report has confirmed ante-mortem head injury as the cause behind the death of the man,said Sitapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Piyush Mordia.
The SP also said that the erring policemen have been suspended and will be arrested soon.
He said that a police team comprising SO of Tambore police station Rishi Deo,SOG in-charge Anjani Kumar Pandey and constables Abdul Rafe,Veerpal Singh and Anil Kumar had picked up Jabbar and his cousin Sartaj from Ganausa village in Sakran area on Tuesday morning in connection with a womans murder.
The SP said that the beheaded body of a woman was recovered from a field in Tambore area on February 18. While the head of the deceased is yet to be recovered,the woman was identified with the help of her clothes.
The Tambore police station SO and other policemen had picked up Jabbar and Sartaj following a tip-off about their involvement in womans murder.
However,the SP added,Jabbar (34) fell unconscious after the interrogation last night and was rushed to the district hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Jabbars father Hafizullah later lodged a complaint alleging that his son was beaten to death by the policemen. A murder case was registered on his complaint.
