Accusing the Mayawati government of being insensitive to backward communities,AICC General Secretary Digvijaya Singh said on Thursday that the state police are committing atrocities against the most backward community for not supporting the BSP.

Through a statement,Singh alleged that on January 3,families belonging to Rajbhar community — residents of Chaubepur block’s Shahpur village in Varanansi district — were displaced forcefully by the district administration.

“When these families staged a dharna, lead by Bharat Samaj Party president Omprakash Rajbhar,an FIR was lodged against him and nine others. They were arrested. Our leaders like Ajay Rai and Babban Rajbhar have tried to raise the issue locally but to no avail,” said Singh.

“These families are being targeted because they do not support the BSP,” he alleged.

Speaking to The Indian Express,Ajay Rai said: “We are raising the issue locally but the administration is not listening. There are about 11 to 12 Rajbhar families, who were displaced from their houses in Shahpur village allegedly because they had encroached upon the land. When these families tried to present their case before the administration, they were arrested.”
