The government has given commissioners,IGs and DIGs of the ranges and district magistrates and superintendents of police of districts six months time to perform according to its directives or get ready to face stringent action.
The officials were today called to Lucknow for a review of development work and law and order and to discuss flaws pointed out by Chief Minister Mayawati during her one-month tour of the state in February.
Mayawati was present at the meeting for 15 minutes. She left after directing the officials to stick to her directives – to be conveyed by cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh,chief secretary Atul Gupta,principal secretary (home) Kunwar Fateh Bahadur and DGP Karamvir Singh.
Also at the meeting were principal secretaries to the CM,additional cabinet secretary,DG of PAC and ADG of the Intelligence Department.
While the meeting with the commissioners and DMs was over by 4 pm,the principal secretary (home) and DGP continued the meeting with the police officials till 9 pm.
Sources in the Home Department told The Indian Express that the cabinet secretary and chief secretary reprimanded some commissioners and DMs for not paying proper attention to government schemes meant for the poor and Scheduled Castes. The top officials read out Mayawatis remarks about the deficiencies during her visits to the respective districts.
The top officials discussed the progress of specific schemes launched by the state government during the last two years and the attention they required. They also warned the DMs to adhere to Mayawatis directives or face stringent action.
Another issue that featured prominently in the meeting was the Jat protest. The cabinet secretary,chief secretary,principal secretary (home) and DGP held a separate meeting with the ADG of the NCR Zone,Gurbachan Lal,SPs of 13 districts and the IGs and DIGs of the concerned ranges and told them to keep a close watch on the activities of the communitys leaders and ensure they do not cause any law and order problem.
While talking to each SP separately since evening,the principal secretary (home) and DGP informed them that the CM had directed them to ensure that crime against women and SC/STs does not rise in their districts. The SPs were also asked to firmly deal with protests and demonstrations disturbing law and order when required,sources added.
