A 30-year-old man was allegedly set on fire by his relatives when he objected to the construction of a wall on a disputed land in Barabanki on Sunday morning. Rajendra Mishra died while he was on way to the hospital. While three persons were arrested in connection to the incident,one is still absconding.
On the basis of a complaint filed by the deceaseds father,Jwala,the police have registered an FIR against Rajendras cousin Prem Narayan,his wife Shanti Devi,daughter Guddia and son Sunil at the Tikaitnagar police station. While Shanti Devi,Sunil and Guddia have been arrested,Prem Narayan is absconding.
A native of Arhuva village,Rajendra was working in a private firm in Chandigarh. He had come to Barabanki on Friday night after coming to know that Prem Narayan,who used to stay near his residence,was forcibly pursuing construction work on the three biswa land.
Both Rajendra and Prem Narayan claim to be the owner of the land and the matter is pending in court. But the land remained in Prem Narayans possession, said ASP Sriparna Ganguli.
The incident occurred when Rajendra objected to the construction work and ordered the labourers to leave, said Brijesh Tiwari,in-charge of Tikaitnagar police station.
According to the complaint,Prem Narayan and his family forcibly took Rajendra to a nearby lane and poured kerosene oil on him before setting him ablaze.
Witnessing flames,locals rushed to the lane and took Rajendra to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The body has been sent for postmortem.
