Lucknow to host Asian T-T

The 19th Asian Table Tennis Championships will be organised at UP Badminton Academy,Gomti Nagar,Lucknow from November 16 to 22 this year.

The 19th Asian Table Tennis Championships will be organised at UP Badminton Academy,Gomti Nagar,Lucknow from November 16 to 22 this year. The seven-day event will host events like men’s and women’s team championships,men’s and women singles,men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles event.

According to UPTTA honorary Arun Kumar Banerjee,“As some of the most competitive table-tennis playing nations come in Asia,therefore,top players of the world like the Olympic champions,world Champions and Asian champions are expected to be seen in action during the meet.”

The last edition of the championship was held in China in 2007. India successfully hosted this event twice— in 1980 at Kolkata and in 1992 at New Delhi. This will be the third occasion when India will be hosting the event.

About 380 participants in all are expected to take part in the championships.

Prabhat C Chaturvedi (IAS) and Arun Kumar Banerjee,have been unanimously re-elected as president and honorary secretary,respectively,of the Uttar Pradesh Table Tennis Association (UPTTA) for a four year term— from 2009 to 2013 in the Annual General Meeting of UPTTA held at Lucknow. Prabhat C Chaturvedi and Arun Kumar Banerjee are presently also the vice president and joint secretary,respectively,in the Table Tennis Federation of India.

Review meet
A review meet of the sports department was organised at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium,Lucknow on Monday. According to AK Banoda,Deputy Director Sports (UP),during the meet a review of the training camps and tournaments in various sports was done. The sports officials were asked to ensure that all construction work gets completed within the set time limit for each work. Discussions were also done on how the ‘Khel Kood Protsahan Samiti’ could generate income for sports development.
