Lohia Gram scheme is back

The state government has decided to revive the Lohia Gram scheme, which was first introduced by the previous Mulayam Singh government in the year 2004.

The state government has decided to revive the Lohia Gram scheme, which was first introduced by the previous Mulayam Singh government in the year 2004.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the board of directors of Mandi Parishad, which was chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The parishad would spend Rs 250 crore on the Lohia Gram scheme in the current financial year to provide basic facilities in 1,000 select villages. The villages would get roads, electricity, solar lights and hand-pumps. The CM ordered selection of at least five villages from every district this year.

Sources in the government said the revival of Lohia Gram Scheme is a clear indication about the ruling Samajwadi Party’s (SP) future plan to soft-pedal the Mayawati government’s Ambedkar Gram Vikas Yojana for development of villages which have substantial Dalit population.

Under Lohia Gram scheme, the Samajwadi Party government selects villages which have considerable population of most backward castes, who are also given land.

Apart from this scheme,Akhilesh also directed officials to get prepared Mandi Parishad’s vision document for the next five years from a reputed company.
