Why Superman,Spiderman or Batman when our culture, folklore and mythology have so many stars endowed with superpowers? In town to promote their new series ‘Little Krishna’,Nina Elavia Jaipuria, senior vice president and general manager of Nick India, averred it was only production values that required to be upgraded, otherwise as far as content was concerned we could take our pick any time from our immense library.
“Krishna is such a colourful character; the story of his life is redolent with anecdotes/episodes that could give the biggest of entertainers a run for their money,” said Nina, adding that her channel stood for wholesome entertainment free of violence and any negative influence children were vulnerable to. Every care has been taken to create a world class series of 13 episodes, said the channel head, adding that the producers consulted the ISKCON for research and Jeffrey Scott of Ninja Turtles and Dragon Tales fame was roped in to write the script. “Inept script is the reason for poor quality animation in India. When Scott wrote Little Krishna,he was armed with exhaustive research material and every detail was on paper before the filming began,” she informs.
Ashish SK,CEO of BIG Animation, the production company commissioned to produce the serial, says “I grew up in a joint family in Nagpur and there were always grand parents or uncles and aunts to tell stories from Ramayan and Mahabharat as well as folk tales. As my daughter grew up,I realised how little she knew about the great Indian heroes and thought, why not give kids a package comprising stories of Krishna.”
The 13-episode series is on air from Monday to Friday and tells the story of various encounters of Krishna with demons when he was 5 to 12 years of age.
