Inflated CAT marks: HRD orders probe

“The score of the candidates were handed over to a Lucknow-based firm,Web Weavers. They were responsible for publishing it on the website,where the manipulation was observed. An FIR was registered at Kunnamangalam police station (on June 15) against Web Weavers,” said M G Sreekumar,in charge of media relations at IIM-K.

Chevayur Circle Officer Prakasan Padannayil said the FIR was registered under sections 406 and 120(b) of the IPC and under section 65 of the IT Act. “Eight members are investigating the case,” said City Commissioner Sparjan Kumar.

“One team will be going to Rajasthan to locate the Web Weaver agent at IIM-K,who is from Rajasthan. He has been absconding since the news came out,” he said.

“For locating the servers and obtaining other details,another team will be going to Lucknow,” Kumar said. Padannayil,who will head the Lucknow team,said he will leave for the city on July 1.

Although the Web Weavers website mentions no contact number,calls and messages by The Sunday Express to the number mentioned on the firm’s Facebook page went unanswered.

The wall of the firm’s Facebook page states that “after CAT 2010 and CAT 2011,we are again hosting and managing CAT 2012 with IIM Kozhikode…(sic).” The information page of the profile says the firm was found by one S Hasan in 2005.
