Court rejects govt plea to withdraw case against BSP MP
Muzaffarnagar:
A local court in Muzaffarnagar rejected the state government’s plea to withdraw a six-year-old criminal case against Bahujan Samaj Party MP Kadir Rana and 11 other party workers on Friday. The court of Additional District Sessions Judge S K Banerji ruled that withdrawal of the plea cannot be allowed in public interest,as several policemen — including a DSP — were injured and substantial government property was damaged in the incident. In 2004,Rana and 11 others were allegedly involved in violent protests outside the district magistrate’s residence in the district’s Shamli town. They had raised slogans against the arrest of then BSP candidate Shanawaz Rana, who allegedly violated the code of conduct during the last Lok Sabha elections.
