A 22-year-old Dalit youth was allegedly beaten to death at Dehla Wala village in Bijnor district by the family of a girl with whom he had a relationship,police said.

A 22-year-old Dalit youth was allegedly beaten to death at Dehla Wala village in Bijnor district on Thursday by the family of a girl with whom he had a relationship,police said on Friday.

The youths body has been sent for postmortem,police said. A case has been registered against four persons including the girls father Madan Singh Chouhan and her brother Janandan,they said,adding,both of them are absconding. No arrests have been made so far. The girls family was against her relationship with the Dalit youth.

Court issues fresh notice to Shahi Imam

A local court has issued a fresh notice to the Shahi Imam of Delhis Jama Masjid to appear before it in a case of alleged violation of the model code in the 2007 Assembly elections in UP. Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari had reportedly used a helicopter,without permission,while campaigning for United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Sabir Ali from Khatoli constituency. Chief Judicial Magistrate Sunil Kumar Arya has fixed April 7 for the Imam to appear in the court.

SP agitation to start from March 7

Samajwadi Party on Friday rescheduled its three-day statewide agitation against misrule of Mayawati government. Now,the partys agitation will begin on March 1 instead of March 7. The agitation dates have been rescheduled due to Mahashivratri festival on March 2, SP spokesman Rajendra Chowdhury told media persons here.
