Abducted boy rescued; 5 teen kidnappers held
Aligarh: The police rescued a five-year-old boy,who was abducted from Aligarh a week ago,and arrested five teenagers in this connection late on Wednesday night. Mubeen had gone missing from outside his house at Neevery Bagh locality on December 30. Later,his family received a call from unidentified persons demanding Rs 7 lakh as ransom,SSP Man Singh Chauhan said on Thursday. The kidnappers had asked the family to deliver the ransom amount in Rajasthans Bharatpur and had threatened to sell the child’s kidney if their demand was not met. Through electronic surveillance,the police tracked the location of the kidnappers in the city, said Chauhan. All the accused were in the age group of 16-18 years. Two of their accomplices were absconding,he added.
Over 700 held during FDA drive
Lucknow: More than 700 people have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh during a drive by the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) against sale and manufacturing of adulterated food items and spurious medicines. Till December 31,796 FIRs were lodged against 1,204 people of which,780 were arrested during the FDA drive launched on the directives of Chief Minister Mayawati, an official spokesman said. While 488 people were arrested under Food Act,285 were booked under the provisions of Drug and Cosmetic Act. Edible items of around 8.21 crore were seized during the raids. Moreover,43 blood banks were raided,of which,licences of four were cancelled, he added.
Tigress kills man in Bahraich
Lucknow: A tigress killed a 60-year-old man,Shaligram,in Bahraich district on Thursday. Shaligrams body was found near the border of Katarniyaghat sanctuary area. Divisional Forest Officer,Katarniya Ghat,RK Singh said: The mans body was found about 50 metres from the forest area. He had gone to the sugarcane field early in the morning when the tigress attacked him. We are trying to track the tigress and have sounded an alert in the surrounding villages. According to the latest tiger census,Katarniya Ghat has over 50 tigers.
Drug-peddler with ISI links held
Lucknow: A drug-peddler,having alleged links with Pakistans Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) was arrested in Lucknow by district police crime branch. Virendra Gupta,hailing from Maharajganj district,was arrested near Alambagh bus stand and 400 gram heroine and 1.8 kg opium were recovered from his possession. Gupta has links with the ISI and Nepal Maoists,besides being involved in a fake currency note racket,said an official. Gupta,who had been in Lucknow earlier,was supplying contraband in the city using his local links,he added.
Train service restored
New Delhi: Rail traffic between Kanpur and Delhi,which came to a halt following snapping of overhead wires on Thursday morning,was restored after four hours. Train services in the section were disrupted at 7.30 am,as overhead wires broke after a high tension cable running above snapped and fell on it near Shikohabad railway station. According to a Railway spokesperson,the repair work was completed by 11 am and both the up and down lines were thrown open to rail traffic by 11.30 am. The disruption held up train movement,with several passenger trains,including the Rajdhani Express trains,stranded mid-way. The busy Delhi-Kanpur section of the Delhi-Howrah mainline has also been affected because of dense fog.
