Says Vinod Maheshwari,a wholesale dealer in the 1-gm ‘gold forming’ antique jewellery from Chowk: “With TV serials and even films like Jodhaa-Akbar bringing back the era of ‘jadaau’ and antique jewellery,the same designs in 1-gm gold variants make looking splendid so affordable.

In a variety of designs,the pieces of jewellery also make it easier for you to have jewels matching every attire.”

So while Balika Vadhu kangans and baajubands (armlets) with embossed stones in different colours are priced Rs 1,450 onwards a pair,the necklace sets in the same category are priced from Rs 3,700 for the latkan sets (chains with pendants) to Rs 5,800 onwards for the chokar sets. Prices of earrings and maangteeka start from Rs 700.

“Gold forming sets with pastel coloured stones,like those worn by Saloni in the serial Saat Phere or by Ragini and Saadhna in Bidaai are also in great demand,” adds Maheswari.

Selling under names like ‘Saloni set’,’Raagini maangteeka’ and ‘Raagini bidaai set’,bangles in this range too come at Rs 1,200 onwards,while prices of sets,delicate and intricate in design with an array of coloured stones,start from Rs 3,000 .

The most desired Aishwarya Rai jewellery in Jodhaa-Akbar comes in the form of ‘Jodhaa sets’. Complete with a ‘chokar’,’latkan haar’,earrings,’maangteeka’ and ‘baajuband’,the sets are priced at Rs 8,500 onwards. The kangans or the heavy bangles in this category are priced from Rs 1,900.
