Fake candidate caught in Lucknow

A case of impersonation was reported during the state’s Combined Pre-Medical Test in Lucknow on Friday.

A case of impersonation was reported during the state’s Combined Pre-Medical Test in Lucknow on Friday. One Gulab Chandra Gupta,who had allegedly appeared in examination in place of one Akhilesh Gupta,was booked.

Gupta,a resident of Allahabad,was caught after his face did not match the photograph of Akhilesh in the verification form.

He was writing the examination in Jai Narain Post Graduate College,when the Centre superintendent found the discrepancy.

“Akhilesh Gupta was writing his exam in Room No 20,” said center in-charge S D Sharma. “While he was much older and balding,the photograph was of a younger person with long hair. After he completed writing his paper,we handed him over to the police.”

“The man said he was a resident of Allahabad and was writing the paper in place of Akhilesh Gupta of Lakhimpur Kheri,his distant relative,” said SN Pathak,Inspector,Hussain Ganj Police Station.

The examination,otherwise,was peaceful in Lucknow,the largest centre for CPMT in the state. “In 27 centers in Lucknow,13,291 candidates took the test,” said Dr Munna Singh,Assistant Coordinator of CPMT in Lucknow. Altogether,64,956 students appeared for the test this year across 135 centers in the state.

“We are yet to find out the number of absentees,” said Mahesh Chandra,Registrar,Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University,Kanpur,which is conducting the examination.
