A week after Samajwadi party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav apologised to Muslims and assured his support to them, the Congress,on Thursday, planned a minority convention in Barabanki.

Salman Khurshid,Union Minister for Minority Affairs, senior Congress leader Mohsina Kidwai and AICC in-charge of minority cell Imran-ur-Rehman will be part of this convention, where representatives from different minority groups will be given chance to interact with them and put forward their queries.

“Barabanki is one of the 90 districts in the country which have a concentration of minorities and have been covered by multi-sectoral development plan of the Union Government,” said PL Punia, the Congress parliamentarian from Barabanki. “The minority population in the district is over 24 per cent and thus, there is all the more reason to organise such a convention, where people can discuss problems and their solutions.”

The issues on anvil will include problems of weavers, reservation, recommendations of Rangnath Mishra report and the plight of madarsas in the state,he said.

Union Minister Khurshid is scheduled to visit Dewa Sharif before the convention.
