The Inspector General (IG) of CRPFs CoBRA battalions visited Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday to conduct a reccee of Naxal-affected areas.
The CRPF is to set up a Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) battalion there,which will also serve other districts in the same predicament.
The IG of CoBRA at Delhi Headquarters,Ashutosh Shukla,accompanied Sonbhadra Superintendent of Police (SP) Preetinder Singh at the district bordering the Naxal-affected states of Jharkhand,Bihar,Chhatisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to set up the CoBRA battalions on priority basis in states where the Naxal problem is at its worst.
Each Naxal-affected state will have a battalion headquarter by the next year and the ministry will provide the fund to set up the special force. A week ago,battalions were set up in Rohtas and Aurangabad districts of Bihar,the SP said.
According to Singh,Shukla also met the CRPF personnel deployed in Sonbhadra and later left for Mirzapur,where a CRPF battalion is stationed. Three companies of CRPF are deployed in Sonbhadra,the SP said.
