The teenaged son of Mainpuri district ASP committed suicide by shooting himself with his father’s licenced revolver at his residence in the City Kotwali area on Friday. No suicide note was found from the spot. Mainpuri Superintendent of Police D K Rai said ASP Rajesh Kumar had gone to attend a meeting in Agra. A student of Class XI,Vaibhav was with his grandfather when the incident took place. Around 3 pm,Kumar’s father-in-law,who was sleeping in another room,heard a gunshot and rushed to Vaibhav’s room only to find it locked from inside. The police broke open the room to find Vaibhav lying on the bed with blood oozing out of his temple. The .32 bore revolver used for the suicide was lying nearby.

Two dead in crossfire
Two persons died and two others sustained bullet injuries in a crossfire between two rival groups in Azamgarh district’s Kandhrapur area on Friday evening. Azamgarh SP Bhagwan Swaroop said the rival groups led by Sadhu Yadav and Dinesh Yadav of Devpar village engaged in a crossfiring following a heated exchange. This resulted in the deaths of Dinesh’s brother Brijesh (25) and one Priyanka (7) who was standing on the terrace of her house. Dinesh and his friend K M Tiwari,who have sustained bullet injuries,were rushed to the BHU in Varanasi where their condition was stated to be critical. Sadhu had shot dead Dinesh’s father Ram Nagina about 10 years ago. “Raids are being conducted to arrest the assailants,” the SP said.
