Robber killed in firing,cops hurt
A miscreant died in an exchange of fire between a gang of robbers and the police in Mathura districts Vrindavan area late on Wednesday. Mathura SSP and five other policemen were injured in the incident. Mathura SP (City) Ram Lal Verma said the police team,led by the SSP B D Paulson,chased the robbers after they stole a Scorpio from the Farah area. The gang members were travelling in a blue-beacon Bolero jeep.

When the police team intercepted the gang in the thickets of Tehra village,the miscreants fired at them. While Paulson,two sub-inspectors and three constables sustained bullet injuries,one robber was killed. The other members of the gang,however,managed to escape. While the miscreant is yet to be identified,the police have recovered the Scorpio. The blue-beacon Bolero,a carbine and a pistol were recovered from the spot,said Verma.

Chhota Shakeel gang members arrested
LUCKNOW: The state STF claimed to have arrested two members of the Chhota Shakeel gang and recovered a .32 bore pistol. According to an STF officer,the accused have been identified as Michael Thapa alias Raj Chaudhary of Nepals Bardia district and Jitendra Singh of Uttar Pradeshs Deoria district. They were on their way to Nepal when they were arrested in Maharajganj districts Sonauli area. Thapa was in constant touch with Mumbai-based Harish Shetty,a close aide of Shakeel,the officer added.

Shoe smacking: 3 of khap panchayat held
Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad police on Wednesday arrested three persons who allegedly smacked a rape accused five times with a shoe and let him go. Dharam Pal,Brahm Pal and Rajveer were arrested for smacking the rape accused with shoe,interfering with the process of law and preventing the victim for registering the case with the police,said Ghaziabad SSP Raghubir Lal. The three smacked the accused following the orders by a khap panchayat. The trio had smacked the accused Narendra Singh with shoe as the caste-based panchayat decided not to take the matter to police, he said. Narendra is accused of the rape of a 17-year-old girl.
