Bareilly Additional Superintendent of Police,Traffic,Kalpana Saxena, who caught three policemen of her department extorting money from truckers, ended up injured after she challenged them.

When the men tried to drive off,she caught onto one of them and was dragged for over a kilometer. Not only did the men fail to stop the car and help her,the driver — whom she could not identify — finally pushed her off. Saxena sustained injuries on her arms and legs.

According to the police,Saxena was informed that some policemen were extorting money from truckers on the Lucknow-Delhi highway in Bareilly’s Cantt area on Thursday evening. She went to the spot accompanied by her gunner and driver and stopped her vehicle a little way from the spot to watch the miscreants.

She saw three constables — Ravindra Singh,Manoj Singh and Ravindra Singh — and Dharmendra Singh, the unemployed brother of Ravindra Singh.

“I went up to their vehicle and asked them to come out,” said Saxena,a 1990-batch PPS officer. “They tried to run,but I caught the driver by his neck. He dragged me for quite a distance and when he realised that I will not let go he pushed me away.” She was later taken to the Ganga Charan Hospital by her gunner Cheema.

Saxena said she had identified the constables as all three belonged to the traffic department. Later,Dharmendra was arrested from the Cantt area. The constables are at large. “I have to see the duty chart to find out about their postings,” said NK Srivastava,Deputy Inspector General,Bareilly.
