Banda rape: Maya orders CB-CID probe

The CB-CID would also probe into the charges of theft against the girl.

“The investigation into the matter has been transferred to CB-CID,” said state Home Secretary Deepak Kumar.

Chief Minister Mayawati has asked the CB-CID team to visit the place and begin the probe from Sunday morning,according to a press release.

The girl was arrested for stealing a mobile phone,Rs 5,000 and a bag from the house of Purushottam Naresh,where she stayed from December 8 to 12. On Thursday,the medical examination of the girl was conducted inside the Banda district jail where she is lodged since December 14.

Several political leaders and organisations including Gulabi Gang,which fights against atrocities on women,have demanded that a case be registered on the allegations levelled by the victim and her family. State Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi and state BJP president Surya Pratap Shahi were not allowed to meet the victim when they had gone to meet her.

The victim’s father,Achche Lal Nishad,a resident of Shadabadpur village in Naraini area of Banda district,said his daughter who had gone to her maternal grandmother’s house in Dharampur area of Panna district in Madhya Pradesh a few months ago went missing.

According to him,on December 8,his daughter was found from a house in Pathra village in Banda with the help of local MLA. Achche Lal then requested the legislator to let his daughter stay at his home till he finds a match for her.

On December 13,a case was lodged against the girl in Banda where it was stated that she decamped with his cellphone,Rs 5,000 and a bag. Two days later,the girl was arrested. Achche claimed that on December 24,when the girl was produced in the court,she told her brother that she was raped at the MLA’s house. The legislators said his political rivals were trying to malign his image.
