Azam Khan will return to SP on Dec 10

Former Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, whose expulsion from the party was revoked on November 3,on Saturday announced his return to the party.

Former Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, whose expulsion from the party was revoked on November 3,on Saturday announced his return to the party. The formal announcement to this effect would be made on the birth anniversary of Maulana Mohammad Ali Johar in the presence of party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on December 10.

Azam Khan who was expelled from the party soon after the Lok Sabha elections in May 2009,for opposing the ties of the party with former BJP leader Kalyan Singh, said his decision was made in the wake of the recommendations of the Mashwarati Council, which had met the SP chief in Delhi on November 22 last.

Mashwarati Council,a political outfit,is headed by Azam Khan himself.

“Maulana Mohd Ali Jauhar’s birth anniversary is on December 10 and either on that date or a day before,I will go back to SP,” Azam Khan said here addressing a press conference, adding “the decision to go back to SP was taken during a meeting of the Mashwarati Council whose leader had also met SP chief supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on November 22 at Delhi. But the final decision on when, where and how in the matter has been left to the SP supremo. Whatever he decides, will be acceptable,” he said.

In a veiled attack on Amar Singh,Azam said his decision to return to SP came to help the party and Mulayam Singh Yadav who have been under attack in recent months. “The wounds suffered by them were inflicted by those elements who caused loss to the SP,” he said without naming the expelled SP leader.

“Some opportunist people had entered the party like a mouse, whose presence is realised only after suffering the loss,” he said.

The Mashwarati Council which formally met here on Saturday also adopted a six-point resolution in praise of Mulayam Singh Yadav. “The stature of Mulayam Singh Yadav has increased in the Indian politics in the wake of his statements admitting his mistakes. The council hopes that he would continue to give new direction to the national politics.”

Incidentally, the council taking note of the Bihar Assembly elections results did not name the BJP or mention the rise of communal forces and the return of NDA to power. “The council is of the view that the message from the Bihar Assembly election is loud and clear that the country needs a strong viable alternative against corruption and casteism.”

Earlier,SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said Khan was one of the founders of the party and he was willing to go to Rampur (Khan’s hometown) to persuade him to return to the party.
