At home turf,Rahul needs a ‘second hand’

Blaming the BSP government for the problems of UP,AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Saturday that working without co-operation from the state government was like working with one hand.

Blaming the BSP government for the problems of UP,AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Saturday that working without co-operation from the state government was like working with one hand.

“My father used to work with two hands. His one hand was the Government of India and the other was the government in Uttar Pradesh. But,I have to work with just one hand. I do the best I can from Delhi, but the UP government here is least co-operative and thus development works face hurdles.”

Rahul, who addressed small wayside meetings in his constituency, said,“In order to ensure development of the entire state like we did it in Rae Bareli and Amethi, you will have to give me my both hands,i.e. government at the Central as well as the state level.”

He quoted the example of National Paper Mill, which would have provided employment to thousands of youths. “The files were cleared from Delhi by the Central Government but these are all lying pending with the state government in Lucknow,” he said.

He reminded the people about the recent revival of Malvika Steel factory, which had been defunct for several years.

At all five places,Captain Satish Sharma introduced Rahul as a future prime minister and asked the people to ensure his victory with record votes.

“Twenty-six years back,I had come here with Rajiv Gandhi who was then general secretary of the AICC. Soon,he became the Prime Minister of the country. Today,I have come with Rahul Gandhi who is the general secretary of AICC. So you know what he would be next,” said Sharma.

“We have a tradition of giving PMs to the country and not just MPs,” he added.

Rahul apologised to the people for spending just one day in his constituency because of his busy campaign schedule across the country.

“But I know that first you gave your love and support to Jawahar Lal Nehru, then Indira Gandhi, followed by Rajiv Gandhi. Since you all are my family now,I request you all to continue giving me your love and support,” he said.

He specially thanked women at every meeting for coming out of their houses in the scorching heat.
