Two criminals killed in encounter
The UP STF gunned down two gangsters in encounter in Surajpur area of Greater Noida on Monday.

Ajay Singh and Ashutosh Rai had escaped from police custody in 2003 while being brought to a Ballia court from the Mau District Jail. Each of them carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on their heads.

Following a tip-off,the STF team intercepted a car in Surajpur area this noon,said Brij Lal,the ADG (Law & Order). The operation was led by Senior Superintendent of Police,STF,Naveen Arora and a carbine,two pistols — of .9mm and .32 bore — were recovered from their possession. The criminals,both from Ballia district,were behind three murders there after they escaped from custody,Lal said. While Ajay was facing 20 cases including those of murder,extortion and attempt to murder,10 cases were pending against Ashutosh.

Man booked
A woman was allegedly set ablaze by her in-laws in Lucknow’s Malihabad area on Monday morning. Mamta (24) sustained over 80 per cent burns and was rushed to the civil hospital where doctors stated her condition critical. On a complaint lodged by her father,Shyam Lal,an FIR has been registered against Mamta’s husband Raj Kumar. Kumar’s father,Maiku,and mother,Madhuri,have also been named in the FIR.

Kids meet parents
Fifteen children rescued by Childline and Government Railway Police (GRP) Lucknow from an Amritsar-bound train last Thursday,met their parents on Monday. After verification,they would be allowed to go home with their parents tomorrow.
