The Mirzapur police on Tuesday found decomposed bodies of an elderly woman and her three grandchildren from thickets near village Devari under Vindhyachal police circle. Parts of the bodies had been eaten by animals.
The victims were part of a group which had come from Sant Kabir Nagar to visit Vindhyachal temple on Saturday,but had gone missing. The police said the victims had been taken to an isolated place and killed. The place where the bodies were found is not on the way to Vindhyachal temple.
Animals have eaten parts of the bodies,we are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death, said Vinod Yadav,inspector at the Vindhyachal police station. The victims were identified as 62-year-old Hobiya Devi and her grandchildren Dheeraj Kumar (9),Gulshan (7) and Neelam (5). They were identified by Hobiya Devis husband Lalta Prasad and his son Dinesh Gupta,who is the father of the children. They had been camping in Mirzapur and searching for the four since Sunday. We have come to know that the family of Hobiya Devi had a land dispute with relatives in Sant Kabir Nagar. We have called her family members for questioning. A team will be sent to Sant Kabir Nagar to question other people who had come to Mirzapur with them,said a police officer.
On Saturday morning,around 40 persons belonging to Sant Kabir Nagars Khalilabad locality had come to Mirzapur on a mini-truck of one Inder. After a dip in the Ganga,they went to the temple. In the evening,when Hobiya Devi and her grandchildren were noticed missing,others started looking for them. Later,three persons,including Inder,stayed in Mirzapur and other returned to Sant Kabir Nagar.
