Rajat Kapoor meets imbecility with a fair bit of curiosity. As an over-enthusiastic scribe decides to probe the motive behind him doing so many commercials,Kapoor decides to indulge the absurdity of the question by mockingly sharing her concern. He seriously calls Atul Kumar, director of The Blue Mug,and asks,Why do you think I am doing so many commercials? Kapoor returns to the question with a straight face and throws a question back. Is there a problem in doing several commercials? he asks.
Kapoor,in city, for the staging of The Blue Mug presented by Ballantines, where he plays himself, seems at home with dynamics of the media. Come to think of it,seven years back, when the play was launched, there wasnt as much hoopla around it. And now suddenly there are press conferences, interviews. Feels a strange, but nice, says Kapoor.
At first we had apprehensions about how the play will be received. After a few screenings,we realized that my memories could be yours too. We are human beings at the end of the day, says Kapoor. The Blue Mug revolves around four people recounting their lives on stage.
Its not all wrong to assume that the greys in life seem to have always drawn Kapoor, the filmmaker. My next film,A Rectangular Love story,is a love story, he defends himself mockingly. So,are we to expect a lot of Bollywood mush in his film that revolves around a girl and three boys? I cant promise that bit, he accedes with a laugh. On a serious note,he explains that as a person, and also as a filmmaker he cant either pretend there is no pain in life. I am a great advocate of life. But you cant ignore that fact that it isnt always rosy. I think my films reflect that feeling, says Kapoor.
While his films might appeal to a niche audience,Kapoor says that he doesnt make films keeping an audience in mind. Its a film that should please me. And if manages to please five other people,I am a happy man, he rounds up.
