Ramdev bats for Mamata, says Left root of all Bengal ills

As the crucial 2011 Assembly elections are drawing near,Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has found a new supporter in yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

As the crucial 2011 Assembly elections are drawing near,Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has found a new supporter in yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

At a public function in Kolkata on Monday,Ramdev said he morally supported the politics of Railway Minister and respected Banerjee for her integrity.

“What I really admire about Mamata Banerjee is that she maintains an ideal personal life and despite being in politics for so many years, there has not been a single allegation against her. I am a moral supporter of her politics,” Ramdev told a gathering which was also attended by Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Subodh Kant Sahai.

“I have met Trinamool leader Partha Chatterjee and will meet Mamata also. I will openly support their party only if people bearing good moral characters are given election tickets,” he said.

The yoga guru, who had earlier announced his decision to join politics, blamed the Left Front government in the state of being the root cause behind the growing violence and Maoist problems.

“West Bengal, which was once the leader of the country, has now become stagnant and has fallen behind all other states. The government (of the day) is responsible for this. The government should revise its agricultural, industrial and employment policies. If a government stays in power for too long,it tends to become dictatorial. If change in the Bengal’s politics is brought forth by the Assembly elections, the CPM will get a chance to rectify itself,” Ramdev said.

Ramdev performed his trademark yoga postures and tried to drive home the pint that corruption and diseases are the causes of all problems plaguing the country, and doing away with the two is the only way to build a “New India.”

The yoga guru, however, did not say whether he would join any mainstream political parties or float his own outfit, but added that the 2014 Lok Sabha elections will be a “Maha Sangram”.

“I have already started a spiritual political process and will stay in politics till the time corruption is eliminated from the country. Anti-corruption laws should be made more stringent and corruption should be dealt with in a way in which treason is punished,” he added.
