Three bike-borne persons on Saturday morning shot dead a trader at Rajarhat main road.

Three bike-borne persons on Saturday morning shot dead a trader at Rajarhat main road. The incident happened in front of the newly opened Tata Medical Cancer Research Centre.

According to police sources,Mosaraf Ali Mollah, riding a bike was passing through the Rajarhat road when three persons riding on two bikes followed him and shot him. Mollah fell off his bike while the assailants sped away from the area. Locals immediately rushed Mollah to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead.

“The assailant chased his bike and blocked his way. They shot him from point blank range and fled away. Some of the local people tried to chase the miscreants in an autorickshaw but could not catch them,” said a local Trinamool leader.

“Mollah was a supplier of the construction material to several projects in Rajarhat area. Prima facie,it seems he was murdered due to business rivalry and profit sharing. We were told by the witnesses that the miscreants were aged between 18 and 25 years. The pillion rider fired at the victim thrice. But the bullets did not hit him. So the assailants overtook his bike and blocked his path and then they shot him from point blank range,” said a senior police official.

Mollah,a resident of Nawabpur mouza in Rajarhat, was a former member of the CPM,said a source.
