Now,Mamata seeks central probe

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee today demanded a central probe into the Maoist attack at Sankrail police station in West Midnapore and the recent developments in the district during the on-going operation carried out by the central-state joint forces.

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee today demanded a central probe into the Maoist attack at Sankrail police station in West Midnapore and the recent developments in the district during the on-going operation carried out by the central-state joint forces.

Talking to reporters before leaving for New Delhi today,Banerjee said that home affairs is a state subject. “But the central forces have been deployed there for the last few months. During the joint operation by the forces arms and ammunition are being hoarded into various places in West Midnapore from outside. The Centre should look into this,” she said.

The Centre should think over the outcome of the deployment of central forces at Lalgarh and its adjoining areas to flush out Maoists,Banerjee added.

Reacting to yesterday’s attack, she refused to comment on the role of the state government for release of Officer-in-Charge Atindranath Dutta.

“As I am also in the government,I should not make any comments as to what the state government should do for his release,” she said.

“We want the return of the police officer in good health,” the minister added.

She,however, said the government should take steps for the security and safety of the common people in West Midnapore and the bordering areas of Bengal,Jharkhand and Orissa.

Trinamool knocks Raj Bhawan doors on Lalgarh operation

Kolkata: A delegation of Trinamool Congress leaders met Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi telling him that it is necessary to re-evaluate the operation of the joint forces at Lalgarh after yesterday’s Maoist attack. The 20-member delegation, led by leader of Opposition Partha Chatterjee, said personnel of the Central forces are staying in guest houses while CPM cadres and the state police are targeting Trinamool workers and innocent villagers.

Chatterjee said that statement made by the CPM trying to associate Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee with Maoists is an attempt to malign her and turn the support of the people away from her.

“Section 144 has been imposed in 80 per cent of the Maoist-affected areas and the question arises how the Maoists came and attacked the police station,” said Chatterjee. ENS
