GTA Act to be notified today
The notification of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Act will be issued on Wednesday. This was stated by Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh on Tuesday following a meeting with the DM of Darjeeling and administrator of DGHC. The delimitation process will begin soon,following which election will be held,Ghosh added. As stated in the GTA Act,there will be three tier panchayat structure in the GTA area. Under DGHC Act,the panchayat structure in the council was of two tier.
40 convicts to be released
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced that the government would release 40 convicts who have served prison terms of over 18 years. Legal procedure for their release will begin shortly,said the CM. To a question on those who are in jail for their involvement in Nandigram anti-land acquisition movement,she said cases initiated against innocent people of Nandigram has been withdrawn.
Absentee staff told to cite reason
The state government has asked the employees who did not attend duties on February 28 the day when Left trade unions called a nationwide Industrial strike to explain the reason for their absence within March 21.
