Yes,no,yes
The novel idea of giving training to the newly-elected Trinamool legislators about the proceedings in the Assembly was earlier planned but was shelved in the last moment. Now many feel that such a workshop is necessary particularly after Fridays goof up by the Trinamool MLAs when the House was passing the crucial Bill for setting up of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Council. There was a moment when the ruling partys MLA who were asked to say NO said Ayes triggering laughter and chuckles not only in the opposition benches but also some employees of the secretariat. The Speaker of the House too made a few mistakes but he kept his calm and composure. Despite his effort to conduct the proceedings of the House to the best of his ability, some MLAs were seem gossiping and loitering around in the House.
Watering down hopes
Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata tried his best to drive the point that he has no hard feelings against West Bengal in the wake of his car manufacturing companys ignominious exit from Singur. He did not evade any of the difficult questions and answered all with a clear message We want be sure that there are no hostilities towards the company to bring in the investments. However,he had to leave the dais dejected as a group of over enthusiastic journalists jumped on the table as soon the press conference got over and spilled water on his clothes.
Ganeshas partial relief
Before the Fridays international friendly between Argentina and Venezuela,Sports Minister Madan Mitra said that he was praying to Lord Ganesha to ensure that this time there was no power cut during the match. In 2004,during the World Cup qualifier between India and Japan,a rat had snapped the cable at a West Bengal State Electricity Board power sub-station near Yuba Bharati Krirangan (YBK),forcing a 30-minute blackout. This time, however,Lord Ganesha heard Mitras prayer, though not entirely. The match went on smoothly but the power cut returned to haunt YBK minutes after the final whistle, causing the Venezuela coach,Cesar Farias,to cancel his press conference half way through. Lionel Messi was due next. Stunned at the sudden occurrence, the Argentina captain preferred to stay back. Only coach Alejandro Sabella came.
