West Bengal Forest Minister Jyoti Priya Mallick, who was arrested in connection with alleged irregularities in ration distribution and was admitted to a private hospital after his health deteriorated, is now stable, doctors said on Sunday.

A statement issued by a Kolkata-based private hospital, where the minister is admitted, said an MRI scan was done on his brain and cervical spine.

“The patient completed the Holter monitoring, and underwent a repeat MRI of the brain and also an MRI of the cervical spine. The patient was also examined by a multidisciplinary team of consultants. He continues to have mild weakness of left upper and lower limbs. Mr Mallick is otherwise stable and consumed a normal diabetic diet,” it said.

According to officials, the minister is admitted in the Critical Care Unit (CCU). A medical board comprising four doctors has been set up to monitor the TMC leader’s health.

Mallick was taken into custody by ED under the PMLA after he was interrogated for nearly 20 hours when searches starting Thursday were carried out on properties belonging to him and his associates.

He was produced in a Kolkata court that granted his ED remand for 10 days. The minister fainted in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court and even vomited before he was taken in an ambulance to a private hospital where he was admitted later. He told the judge that his blood sugar level was high and he had swelling in his feet
