The condition of CPM patriarch Jyoti Basu turned very,very critical tonight with multi-organ failure and he was totally dependent on support systems,doctors said,adding he was sinking.
He is very,very critical. His lung,kidney and haemo dynamic system have failed and now his heart and liver function is also deteriorating, Dr A K Maity,Basus personal physician,who is also on the medical board of AMRI Hospital,where he is admitted,told reporters.
To a question how long Basu could survive in this condition,Susrut Banerjee,one of the members of the special medical board at the AMRI Hospital,said,I dont know what will happen and when it will happen. Asked whether tracheostomy would be done on him,Maity said,Let him live first. If he survives,then only can it be done.
He said the 95-year-old former chief minister was on full ventilation and doctors would monitor his condition throughout the night. Basus son Chandan,when asked how his father was,said,What more shall I say? Dr Maity has said it all. Basu was admitted to AMRI on January 1 with lung congestion and breathing distress. Senior party leaders including party politburo member Sitaram Yechuri visited Basu this evening.
