In the wake of Wednesdays stabbing incident that took place inside Jadavpur University (JU) campus, the authorities have decided to revamp security. We have decided that an overall revamp of the security is necessary for the university, said Pradip Narayan Ghosh,JU Vice-Chancellor.
Checks will be conducted at the four gates of the university that are used by the students to move in and out of the campus. The authorities are even planning to install close-circuit cameras at various spots inside the campus to check on miscreants.
If one dose not posses an I-card,the students will have to enter their names and addresses. But one cannot walk in freely, said the vice-chancellor. He added that by January 2010,the first phase of the security revamp will be initiated.
Amid this, the students union gave a deputation to university authorities demanding more security on the campus but at the same time insisted that students should not be harassed in the name of security.
