Addressing his last convocation in his five-year tenure as the Governor,Calcutta University Chancellor Gopalkrishna Gandhi urged students and academicians to work for meeting the dangers of global warming.
Addressing the students and faculty members of the university at its Annual Convocation on Friday,Gandhi advised students to become models of ethics and shun campus violence and ragging. The Chancellor,whose five-year term comes to an end in December,also touched upon the issues educational institutions are grappling with. The intimidation of teachers by students on campuses does no credit to the students. The disregard of teachers by students is unacceptable, he said.
Pointing at global warming and its effects on receding glaciers and depleting forest cover,Gandhi urged students to work for reversing the process.
The Governor also signalled the end of his term as the Chancellor and thanked the university for the affection it extended to him over the last five years.
