For the past few years,thanks to channels like UTV World Movies and NDTV Lumiere,we have been exposed to world cinema. Be it the socio-economical problems of Iran or the vibrant night-life of Korea,discerning Kolkata film lovers can now stake claim to many such realities. In the coming week,the city will be treated to a bouquet of films from countries like South Korea,China,Iran,Argentina and Germany among others. UTV World Movies along with Federation of film societies of India will showcase a collection of ten movies at the Federation premises. The opening film My Wife is a Gangster,is a South Korean film about a female gang boss who needs to get married to fulfill her dying sisters wishes. While,Blessed by Fire talks about suicides by Argentine war veterans which exceed the number of battlefield deaths. The heartwarming Chinese film Hana and Alice is about two childhood friends. Alice is unrestrained and free-spirited. Hana is always picking up the pieces as a result of it. But there are good things that Alice brings too,like Hanas first ever crush. The film,very poignantly addresses the problems faced by the two teenagers as they try and negotiate adulthood. The closing film,The Glaindez File,is a Spanish film about Galíndez Suarez who disappears from his apartment in New York while working with the FBI. His case is pursued by a young scholar who wants to research on his work.
The Festival is on at the Federation of Film Societies of India (C 7,Bharat Bhavan,3,Chittaranjan Avenue) between the 21st and 25th of May.
