BJP condemns President decision on Chauhan

Reacting strongly to President Pratibha Patil’s decision to reject the Lokayukta’s recommendation to sack PWD Minister Rajkumar Chauhan on charges of corruption

Reacting strongly to President Pratibha Patil’s decision to reject the Lokayukta’s recommendation to sack PWD Minister Rajkumar Chauhan on charges of corruption, the Bharatiya Janata Party said the Delhi government may have influenced her in that regard.

Lokayukta Manmohan Sarin had found Chauhan guilty of trying to halt a tax raid at a resort in February last year. “The Lokayukta is an independent body. Justice Sarin had put facts, and not allegations on record. The President has not only rejected the recommendations, but also the findings of the report. This shows the involvement of the highest echelons of the Congress party, including Sonia Gandhi and the President,” Delhi BJP President Vijender Gupta said.

Gupta said the Congress had not even seen it fit to issue either a denial or a clarification for its action.
