Thousands of commuters who travel by trains were inconvenienced severely as rain lashed Kolkata and its surrounding areas on Friday, leading to waterlogging in various parts.

Train services in Sealdah division of Eastern Railway were badly affected due to waterlogging in various sections. In Baruipur-Lakshmikantapur section of Sealdah, overflowing water from nearby ponds submerged the tracks. As many as 40 trains were cancelled. In Sealdah main section, there was waterlogging in the Kankinada-Naihati section and 20 trains were cancelled. Many were running late as well.

In Howrah division as well, train services were affected because of waterlogging at the car shed and various yards. Tracks were under knee deep water in some places making it difficult for trains to ply.
Due to waterlogging at Kolkata station, Kolkata-Lalgola Hazar Duari Express was cancelled on Friday from both Kolkata and Lalgola stations. Circular railway train services was functional between BBD Bag and Majherhat stations only due to waterlogging at the Kolkata station. Services began to resume after noon when the rains relented a bit and the waterlogged areas were drained out.
