Traffic dept finds buses plying without permit,in cahoots with officers
A traffic inspector and a zonal officer were suspended after the vigilance wing of the Traffic department launched a drive to curb unauthorised plying of buses between Kashmere Gate inter-state bus terminus and Badarpur. The two Civil Lines traffic officers were caught taking bribes from bus operators,a senior officer said.
While the duo has been suspended, the officer said that departmental action will also be initiated against all the other traffic inspectors and zonal officers operating on the route. Stating that the vigilance wing found two inter-state buses ferrying passengers without a permit, the officer said they were found to be hand-in-glove with certain officers in the Traffic department.
The route was tracked on the basis of information received by the department, stating that bribes were being taken by the Traffic officers to allow a number of buses to ply in the area without authorisation. Vigilance wing officers bought tickets on these buses and travelled as passengers to see the malpractice happening on Monday evening. Just before Badarpur,at which the Delhi city limit ends, the buses were impounded, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg said.
He said the traffic inspector and zonal officer of Civil Lines, from where the buses originated, were issued suspension orders on Tuesday.
Departmental action would be initiated against Traffic inspectors and zonal officers of all regions on the route,Garg added.
Originating from Civil Lines, these buses used to take passengers from the traffic circles of ISBT Kashmere Gate,Kotwali,Daryaganj,Tilak Marg,Lajpat Nagar and Sarita Vihar.
